Overview

The A2 CofC C is the introductory CAA certified course that allows you more freedom in where you fly your drone. Anyone holding this certificate may fly within the new A2 (Open) subcategory, no matter if its for recreational or commercial reasons.

The A2 (Open) subcategory will allow you to fly your "C2" drone down to just 30m from people. The definition of a C2 drone is explained in the FAQ section.

Note that manufacturers have not yet released any drones that comply with the C2 standards. As an interim measure, the CAA will allow A2 CofC pilots to fly drones weighting under 2kg in the A2 (Open) subcategory, down to 50m from people until July 2022 - perfect for anyone operating a smaller drone.

Course Content & Format

Within this course you'll learn about three core subjects covering Flight Operations, Flight Performance and Meteorology. The material has been written with the newcomer in mind, but as you work through the subjects you'll have on-demand access to your instructors via email, phone and video call.

Once you're ready, you can schedule your exam at a time and date that suits you, with your CAA and AV8 certifications issued automatically.

The course usually takes around 4 to 6 hours to complete, but you can start, pause, resume and complete at your own pace with no time limits.

Certification

This course is available to start at anytime, but please note that you won't be able to fly in the A2 (Open) subcategory until the UK has transitioned to the new EASA regulations on 31st December 2020.

At the end of your course you'll automatically receive your official CAA certificate (PDF) along with your digital certification which can be added to your phone's secure wallet app. The A2 CofC is valid for a period of 5 years from the date of completion.

Key Points

Overview

The GVC Conversion course allows legacy PfCO holders to obtain the new EASA certification without having to study the entire GVC syllabus or pass a flight assessment (subject to minimum recency of flying).

Whilst a PfCO will continue to be accepted by the CAA for the issue of an Operational Authorisation until 2025, this course is a must for any operator who wants to ensure they transition to the new EASA regulations with a compliant Operations Manual and have the option to add the new CAA Modules in future as they become available (EVLOS, BVLOS, etc.).

This course includes the A2 CofC.

Course Content & Format

Within this course you'll learn about the new European legislation and some key differences between the legacy PfCO and the new EASA frameworks. The material has been written for current PfCO holders, but as you work through the subjects you'll also have on-demand access to your instructors via email, phone and video call.

This course includes updates to your Operations Manual, either as content amendments or via AV8's Flight Docs system. See FAQ section for more information.

Once you're ready, you can schedule your exam at a time and date that suits you, with your CAA and AV8 certifications issued automatically.

The course usually takes around 4 to 6 hours to complete, but you can start, pause, resume and complete at your own pace with no time limits.

Certification

This course is available to start at any time with formal certification issued for both the A2 CofC and GVC upon completion.

At the end of your course you'll automatically receive your official CAA certificates (PDF) along with your digital certification which can be added to your phone's secure wallet app. The A2 CofC and GVC are both valid for a period of 5 years from the date of completion.
